        A slim majority of voters in the largely Inupiat city of Barrow in Alaska approved efforts to change the community’s name to Utqiagvik (pronounced “oot-GHAR-vik”) in their local election on. The name Barrow was derived from Point Barrow, and was originally a general designation, because non-native Alaskan residents found it easier to pronounce than the Inupiat name.
